Operation safe driver week

Next week ( July 10 - July 16) is Operation Safe Driver Week. During this week, the officers will be on the lookout for commercial drivers operating unsafely or in a risky manner. It will be all about traffic enforcement.  Last year the most common citation issued were: 
1) Speeding 6-10 mph over the limit.
2) Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. 
3) Failure to Wear Seat Belt. 
4) Lane Restriction
5) Speeding 11-14 mph over the limit. 
6) State Vehicle Registration 
7) Inoperable Required Light
8) Speeding 1 - 5 mph  over the limit. 
9) Speeding 15 mph or more over the limit. 
10) Using a hand held phone. 

Speeding will definitely be a focus this year and is also one of our more common issues. Much like the Road Check week if you know what they are looking for you can take steps to reduce your possible exposure. This includes: 

• ​Following the Speed Limits
• Reading and Obeying Traffic Control Devices and Signs 
• Avoiding Distracted Driving
• Conducting a thorough pre-trip inspection.
